What is Urinary or Stress Incontinence?

Urinary incontinence can be an uncomfortable and embarrassing thing to live with, and also incredibly common. There are two types of urinary incontinence commonly suffered by women: stress incontinence - when you sneeze or laugh too hard and lose urine involuntarily or urge incontinence - an intense or frequent urge to use the loo, often resulting in leakage.

Urinary incontinence is often caused by muscle strain during childbirth or the loss of muscle tone that occurs during the menopause. Stress incontinence in particular, is caused by the pelvic floor muscles (the muscles around the bladder) and the bladder neck muscles becoming weakened.

During childbirth, strain on these muscles can cause loss of muscle tone and strength, meaning they can’t support the bladder like they used to, under any strain. With weaker muscles, leakage can occur during simple activities such as running, jumping, dancing, coughing, sneezing or laughing.

With few options to help with stress incontinence (Kegel exercises or invasive surgery) most women believe that stress incontinence is just something you must “learn to live with” after having babies or once you’ve gone through menopause. That’s simply not true. With new technology such as Ultra Femme 360™, a simple and painless option is available. At Femme Finesse we have helped many women with stress incontinence, with incredible results.

Stress Incontinence After Childbirth

There’s no doubt that becoming a mother changes a woman. Emotionally, physically and personally, having children is a significant stage in life and the impact on our bodies is also significant. The effects of pregnancy or childbirth vary from woman to woman, but the majority will experience urinary incontinence or leakage to some degree during or after pregnancy or childbirth.

While we can try to restore certain aspects of our bodies after childbirth, stress incontinence (leaking when running, jumping, dancing, coughing, sneezing or laughing) has previously been a difficult thing to solve.

Stress incontinence due to childbirth is incredibly common. During childbirth, the pelvic floor muscles (the muscles around the bladder) are under such strain that they can become stretched and damaged, losing muscle tone and strength. With weaker muscles, the bladder cannot be supported as it once was and leakage can occur during simple activities such as running, jumping, dancing, coughing, sneezing or laughing.

An episiotomy during labour can also contribute to post-natal incontinence, due to damage to the nerves controlling the bladder.

Until now, women have had limiting options to help stress incontinence: Kegel exercises which take a very long time to make a minimal impact, or invasive surgery which is painful, frightening and has long recovery times. Ultra Femme 360™ offers a painless, comfortable solution.

Stress Incontinence After Menopause

During menopause, women’s bodies can undergo significant changes. One of these changes can be stress or urge incontinence, which can be a difficult and distressing part of this significant life change.

Weakening of the pelvic floor and increased vaginal laxity are usually associated with, and contribute to, stress incontinence after menopause. Reduced levels of estrogen starting around menopause can cause thinning of the lining of the urethra, the short tube that passes urine from the bladder out of the body. The surrounding pelvic muscles also may weaken with aging, a process known as "pelvic relaxation”.

Thinning of vaginal tissue and slower tissue regeneration can also occur, resulting in added issues for women such as vaginal dryness and increased vaginal laxity. As pelvic relaxation and vaginal laxity increases, women around menopause and beyond are at increased risk for urinary incontinence, or the involuntary leakage of urine, affecting daily life activities (such as running, coughing, laughing), increased urgency to go to the loo and often affecting sexual confidence.

Although urinary incontinence is common during perimenopause and beyond, it’s not an inevitable result of aging and isn’t something we should just ‘learn to live with’. Ultra Femme 360™ can provide significant improvement to these difficult symptoms.

How can Ultra Femme 360™ help Stress Incontinence?

Ultra Femme 360™ is the only radiofrequency device on the market that treats internal vaginal tissue a full 360° during each treatment session. Through radiofrequency waves, Ultra Femme 360™ stimulates the body’s natural healing processes, regenerating new tissue in the internal and external areas of the vagina and genitourinary system.

The toning and tightening effect on vaginal tissue and skin helps support weakened pelvic floor muscles, so you experience less instances of stress incontinence when you laugh, sneeze, or strain to lift something heavy.
